Greetings!
This Tuesday, August 3, our parasha is R'eih,
Deuteronomy 11:26 - 16:17. Our third triennial part is verses 15:1 - 16:17.
15:4 "There shall be no needy among you."
Is that a promise? Is that an instruction?
"If there is a needy person among you . . . do not harden your heart
or shut your hand against your needy kinsman. . . Give to him readily
and have no regrets when you do so."
So clear. So totally clear. One of the things I love most about
Judaism.
15:11 "For there will never cease to be needy ones in
your land."
Do 15:4 and 15:11 contradict each other? Or is there a way
of understanding them together?
These are central ideas about charity and tikkun olam. Very
important stuff. Deutoronomy rocks. You tell em, Moses.
See you soon.
You're welcome to join us this week. Or any week. Or every week.
Warmly,
David
